Your Responsibilities as Director of Benefits
  • Lead Benefits Administration
    Oversee the daily operations of our employee benefits programs in a fast-paced, high-turnover service environment. This includes health, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, flexible spending accounts, and compliance with local and government-mandated programs.
  • Drive Strategic Benefits Planning
    Analyze current benefit offerings and market trends to recommend innovative strategies that attract and retain top talent while aligning with company goals.
  • Manage Self-Insured Plans
    Monitor and analyze claims data to ensure cost-effective plan performance. Collaborate with brokers to forecast annual claims, assess stop-loss coverage, and manage incurred-but-not-reported liabilities.
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance
    Stay ahead of federal, state, and local regulations. Lead timely and accurate reporting for ACA, 5500 filings, IRS/DOL audits, and other compliance requirements. Proactively communicate potential issues to senior leadership.
  • Support Union and Local Ordinance Programs
    Implement and manage benefits required under Collective Bargaining Agreements and living wage ordinances. Coordinate with vendors and internal teams to ensure seamless enrollment and compliance.
  • Deliver Actionable Insights
    Create and maintain reports that track benefit costs and trends, providing leadership with the data needed for informed decision-making.
  • Vendor Relationship Management
    Serve as the primary point of contact for brokers and third-party administrators. Oversee service quality, billing accuracy, audits, and contract compliance.
  • Lead Open Enrollment
    Plan and execute the annual open enrollment process, including communications, system updates, vendor coordination, and reporting.
  • Inspire and Lead a High-Performing Team
    Provide guidance, support, and development opportunities to your team. Foster a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain Accurate Records
    Ensure all benefits data, documentation, and reports are up-to-date and audit-ready.
  • Support M&A Activity
    Conduct benefits due diligence for acquisitions and ensure a smooth transition for newly acquired employees.
  • Take on Special Projects
    Contribute to cross-functional initiatives and other duties as needed to support the organization’s goals.

Your Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree in a business-related field is preferred. Additional training in benefits administration and certifications like SPHR or CEBS are a plus.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in employee benefits, ideally in a fast-paced, high-turnover environment.
  • 3+ years in a leadership or management role.
  • Experience with self-insured plans is preferred.

  • Vendor & Compliance Expertise
    • Proven ability to manage brokers and vendors effectively.
    • Strong knowledge of benefits laws and regulations (COBRA, ERISA, ACA, etc.).
    • Comfortable working with government agencies like the DOL and IRS.
  • Tech-Savvy & Data-Driven
    • Skilled in using HR systems and tools to manage benefits.
    • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office are required.
    • Able to create and interpret reports that support budgeting and decision-making.
  • Communication & Leadership
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Confident in presenting to senior leadership.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work across all levels of the organization.
